Lonoke was selected by University of Central Arkansas and UA Cooperative Extension Service to undertake a 9-month study and analysis of our community which resulted in a comprehensive Strategic Action Plan for Lonoke at the conclusion of the process in April 2017. UCA has issued a press release to announce Lonoke’s selection which may be read on our News & Updates in the article Lonoke Selected by UCA & UA Coopertive Extension Service as 2016-17 “Kick Start Community”. This independent initiative to generate creative IDEAS was called “Kick Start Lonoke” and was led by a volunteer Executive Committee composed of our neighbors Walls McCrary, Valena Washington, Charles Hunter, Hannah Harris, Michael Florence, Suzanne Dorsey, Dianna Bowen, Jessica Watkins, Adam Starks, and Ryan Biles. Community leaders serving on the Executive Committee included Mayor Wayne McGee and Dr. Suzanne Bailey.
Kick Start Lonoke was cooperatively supported by key individuals representing the City of Lonoke, Lonoke Public Schools, the Lonoke Chamber of Commerce, the Lonoke Planning & Zoning Commission, the Lonoke Industrial Development Commission and Retail Economic Commission, local non-profits, and area churches.
