On Thursday evening, January 19, nearly sixty Lonoke citizens assembled at Wade Knox Child Advocacy Center community room to hear a presentation from Edmond Hurst of Crews & Associates regarding municipal bonds for public infrastructure, and to attend breakout sessions with their respective Action Teams. The Kick Start Lonoke Executive Committee expresses thanks to Mr. Hurst and to Infrastructure Co-Chair Gene Eagle for arranging his appearance at the January meeting.
Earlier in the week, the Downtown & Retail Action Team joined the Beautification & Recreation Action Team in a joint working meeting hosted by the Lonoke Planning & Zoning Commission during the Commission’s regular monthly meeting on Monday evening, January 16 for a presentation from Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department regarding gateway and wayfinding signage. Ten members of the public attended to hear from John Mathis of the Department and provide feedback for the Planning & Zoning Commission and the two Action Teams to consider as the groups plan for new signage in the community. A special thanks is due to Beautification & Recreation Co-Chair Lynanne Ivy for arranging Mathis’ presentation to the community.
Each Action Team is well underway in their process of creating lists of priorities and goals related to Infrastructure, Jobs & Education, Housing & Real Estate, Branding & Marketing, Downtown & Retail, and Beautification & Recreation.
Over the next two weeks, each team’s drafts will be completed and then refined at joint meeting of the Kick Start Lonoke Executive Committee and Action Team Co-Chairs in early February.
Following a series of individual Action Team meetings during the month, a public meeting will be held in late February, currently scheduled for Tuesday, Feburary 28. Further details will be conveyed regarding time and location.
Amy Whitehead, Director of the University of Central Arkansas Center for Community & Economic Development announced to the crowd that Thursday, May 18 will be the date of the official roll out of the Kick Start Lonoke Strategic Action Plan. A press conference is being planned as Lonoke will host statewide office holders and dignitaries for the unveiling.
